Denise Thibeault

In opera, oratorio and recital, soprano Denise Thibeault's performances have been praised by The Boston Globe for "a rich voice and lovely interpretation"; by The Providence Journal for "a most effective performance, musically and dramatically"; and by The Patriot Ledger: "She sang beautifully - it was a performance worth attending!"

A finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing and Providence Opera Theater vocal competitions, she received praise for her voice, musicianship, and elegant stage presentation. Judges' comments included: "a beautiful rich tone quality, excellent musicianship, lovely to look at, a fine artist!" "Brava!…a rich tessitura, power and personality"; "a fine voice, sings intelligently, good stage presence, musicianship and interpretation"; "a most sensitive performer who communicates well, with a lovely voice, warm and full throughout the range…very poised…lovely to see and hear".

She has appeared with the Opera Company of Boston, Monadnock Music, Boston Bel Canto Opera, Artists Internationale Opera Company, Quincy Symphony Opera Festival, and Providence Opera Theater. Her elegant figure, graceful stage presence, comic timing, and dramatic interpretation have helped her to create the featured roles of Menotti's Miss Todd, Madame Flora, and Mother; Humperdinck's Hansel; Rossini's Tisbe; Mozart's Third Lady; Donizetti's Alisa; and Lehar's Mademoiselle Bogdonovitch.

Her oratorio and concert engagements have been with the Dedham Choral Society, Masterworks Chorale, Zamir Chorale, Northeastern University Choral Society, Bridgewater College Choral Society, and Harvard University, among others, in repertoire including the J.S. Bach Mass in B Minor, St. John Passion, St. Matthew Passion, Christmas Oratorio, Cantatas 4, 78, 80 & 150, and Magnificat in D; Durufle Requiem; Mozart Requiem, Coronation Mass and Mozart edition of Handel's Messiah; Haydn Lord Nelson Mass; Mendelssohn Gloria (Boston Premiere); Vivaldi Gloria; and Handel Messiah and Judas Maccabeus. This season features her debut with the R.I. Civic Chorale and Orchestra, Assabet Valley Mastersingers, and The Paul Madore Chorale.

Showcasing her artistry as a recitalist, distinguished contemporary American composer Daniel Pinkham chose her to present his compositions at several venues, including the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has been featured in recital on WGBH classical radio, for the National Association of Teachers of Singing New England Conference, and in the Northeastern University "Music at Noon" and Boston Bel Canto Opera recital series where her repertoire ranged from the Baroque era to the present.

Born in New Jersey, Ms. Thibeault traveled throughout Europe and the United States as a child, and was introduced to classical music at an early age. She earned a B.S. in Music Education from R.I. College, is an alumna of the Goldovsky Opera Institute and studied with Iride Pilla at Boston Conservatory in the Masters Program in Vocal Music Performance. She was a member of the voice faculty at Northeastern University for several years, a lecturer in music history at Emerson College, and maintained a successful private voice studio. She currently enjoys an active performing career.
