Steven A. Small, baritone, previously performed with the Assabet Valley Mastersingers in the Basso Profundo role in P.D.Q. Bach's Missa Hilarious, and the more traditional music found in Mozart's Coronation Mass, Haydn's The Seasons, Handel's Messiah, and in the title role of George Frederick Bristow's Daniel.
In demand as a soloist throughout New England and beyond, Mr. Small has had an extensive career in oratorio and recital. He has performed locally for the Worcester Chorus, The Master Singers of Worcester, Salisbury Lyric Opera, the Salisbury Singers, and Con Vivium. Regionally he has sung with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Through the Opera Glass, Connecticut Choral Artists, The Arcadia Players, and numerous choral societies.
He is recorded with the Harrison Digital label in Judas Maccabeaus by Handel, The Grand Mass and Solemn Vespers of Mozart, and the Mass in G of J. S. Bach. He can also be heard on Con Vivium's CD, Love Came Down at Christmas, a collection of the Christmas music of Leo Sowerby on the Albany Records label.
A high lyric baritone, Mr. Small is a student of Hazel O'Donnell and is noted for the beauty and flexibility of his singing, as well as for his dramatic and interpretive ability. He serves as the Senior Pastor of the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in West Boylston, Massachusetts.
