Richard J. Monroe has been hailed by the Boston Globe as "a remarkably gifted young tenor ...". The winner of the 1997 Boston Bel Canto Opera Competition, Mr. Monroe's recent operatic performances include leading roles in productions of The Beggar's Opera, Rigoletto, Die Fledermaus, Tosca, Carmen, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and The Elixir of Love. Recent concert performances have included Schubert's Mass in E flat and Mozart's Requiem with the Assabet Valley Mastersingers, Handel's Messiah with the Worcester Chorus, Haydn's Heilige Messe, and Haydn's Creation with the Assuption College Chorale and Community Chorus.

He has also been heard as a soloist with the Boston Boys Choir, Boston Academy of Music, Boston Aria Guild, Commonwealth Opera, and Longwood Opera. He has also been featured as one of "our three tenors" by the Salisbury Lyric Opera, for whom he currently serves as Managing Director, and the Salisbury Singers. When not performing, Mr. Monroe works as a teacher and choral director at Saint John's High School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
