Photo: Maria Ferrante

Soprano Maria Ferrante was praised by Richard Dyer (Boston Globe) for her “combination of delicacy and intensity. . . infinitely superior to the last Butterfly I saw at the Met...a true singing actress.” Her opera credits span Verdi (La Traviata, Otello, A Masked Ball); Mozart (Magic Flute, Cosi Fan Tutte, Marriage of Figaro); and Puccini (Turandot, La Boheme, Madama Butterfly); to Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona and Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel.

Equally at home on the concert stage, Maria has sung Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Poulenc’s Gloria, Faure’s Requiem, Gounod’s St. Cecilia Mass, Handel’s Acis and Galatea, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Verdi’s Requiem. She has appeared in concert with such world renowned artists as Lincoln Mayorga, Gilbert Kalish, clarinetists Julian Milkis and Richard Stolzman, violinist Arnold Steinhardt and many other musicians of prominence. In addition to her accomplishments singing the familiar, she is also an artist capable of creating brand new roles in contemporary compositions.

Although Maria Ferrante's concerts have lured her to many parts of the world and her musicianship has created numerous East Coast admirers, her voice finds special welcome in Central Massachusetts and the rest of New England. 2008 highlights include concerts at University of Vermont, College of the Elms, and Amherst, Regis, and Assumption Colleges. Additionally there are Master Classes at State University of New York (Buffalo area) plus her ongoing participation in Mohawk Trail Concerts, Worcester Chamber Music Society and several other concert series around Worcester.

Maria's most recent recording is titled Best Kept Secrets--a Treasury of Passionate American Song (19th century). Her research leading up to this recording enhances her several seminars and concerts presenting these previously unfamiliar songs. Her website is www.mariaferrante.com.
