Meet the Composers

This concert is unique in that two of the works performed are commissioned works by the Mastersingers and the third is being performed by special permission of the publisher as performance parts are not yet available to the public.  The three women composers include the historic pioneer of American women composers Amy Beach, the prolific and successful contemporary composer Gwyneth Walker, and the young and aspiring composer Pamela Marshall.  Both Pamela Marshall and Gwyneth Walker will participate in a pre-concert talk and post-concert reception. 

The pre-concert talk, starting at 2:15 PM, will focus on the changing role of women,  especially women composers, in music over the last century.   Gwyneth Walker, Pamela Marshall, and Mrs. Beach through an interpretive persona, will discuss their personal challenges and triumphs as composers.   There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience, and the talk will conclude with brief remarks from Ms. Walker and Ms. Marshall on their compositions.
